Severance (2022)

I finished watching Severance (TV series) (I skipped a bit and watched it on fast forward at the beginning). It’s just exactly based on @davidgraeber‘s Bullshits job. The main task of the Bullshit job, as shown in the series, is the social control and the production of a specific type of social relationship, not the production of things or knowledge, as one may think.

The social relationships are infused with mystical idiocy with elements of BDSM. Various forms of violence are compulsory. Throughout the film, the heroes (both the system’s employees and its victims) tried to figure out what the fuck is going on, what the whole system is up to, wanted to talk to the mystical Board of Directors, until it turns out that they are the Board of Directors themselves.

The father sends (part of) his daughter to torture and torment, the husband part of his wife, and the bosses themselves chop off part of themselves with joyful cruelty. His line in the series develops as a rogue romance, a love journey. The hero literally lost «his half» to reduce the pain of losing his beloved wife. He finds it in a new and scary world. His new girlfriend, his own tormentor, is the owner of a diabolical corporation.

Together with his co-workers: the fat Sancho Panso and the dorky Don Quixote, they embark on a risky adventure for their own freedom, which can only be found by upsetting the horrible company’s plans. Practically a quest for the holy grail! Waiting for the second season.
